17th Month Update

The Sullivan family unit is still intact post 6 months of VT (pansy) winter, a remodel, a sleepless child, 5 ear infections and 2 months of first trimester nausea. Pent up angst went into tree trimming leveling, which saved most of our sanity and kept Ev entertained as Nancy sat around waiting for nausea and stick seasons to pass.

I couldn’t quite capture this moment. Evvie sank into Mom’s arms in complete awe. She kept pointing at her chest and saying her usual “Ba” when excited as if shouting, “guys, are you seeing this?!”. It was unbelievably special.

My logger husband wielded a chainsaw (thanks, Steve) while the real team did most of the work, but I have to admit, Matt took several huge trees down skillfully and he’s really helping to transform this land!

Evelyn has a toddler attention span, but will eagerly and intently watch Baby Einstein or Raffi in concert. Yep, that Raffi. The one you jammed to as a 5 year old. The one whose every lyric you can bust out with joy without pause or thought. He just happened to be touring through Burlington one evening in May – so we screwed bedtime, called Aunt Lyd to join, and snagged some great tickets. Raffi was just as joyful 30 years later. Ev was in awe and sang and danced the entire show.

Several days later, she grabbed Rody and bounced up to Steve’s bachelor party for some beer and spike ball.

My buddy (now wearing big girl PJs (how the f did that happen so fast?!)) helping me make a crumble in our new kitchen. She ooh’ed and wow’d at the entire process and ate her body weight in butter and brown sugar. Happy team.

17/18 months is a golden age. Evelyn is so very happy. She can focus on tasks for 15 minutes or so and loves to read books to herself. She’s become attached to her Corolle doll and her Land of Nod blanket and looks for them before bed. She runs and walks sturdily and receives comments on her height, strength, and friendly ‘hi.’ She can say ‘hi’ ‘bye bye’ ‘two’ ‘booboo’ and ‘poop.’  She loves watching bugs and chipmunks in our yard and offers them her milk and toast regularly. Matt and I have to resist talking about her exclusively when she goes to bed, but really, she’s the best.
